Criminal

We represent clients in adult and juvenile criminal matters in state and federal trial and appellate courts.   Our principal, Paul H. Sweeney, is a former California Deputy Attorney General, as well as Assistant United States Attorney for the United States Attorney's office in Los Angeles.  In that capacity, he tried criminal cases for the United States government in United States District Court in Los Angeles and represented the federal government in appellate litigation before the federal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. That plus over 30 years in private practice representing clients in criminal matters gives him the experience and skills necessary to obtain the best possible outcomes for our clients.

The matters we handle are too numerous to list, since they would include most criminal offenses under state and federal law.  Such matters include:
  • felony and misdemeanor charges in state and federal court
  • appeals in state and federal court
  • petitions for writs, such as habeas corpus, mandate, and prohibition
  • drugs and other controlled substances
  • parole and probation
  • extradition
  • white collar crimes
  • RICO Act matters
  • serious traffic violations
If a cooperative and informal resolution cannot be reached that best serves our client's interests, we will aggressively defend our client in pre-trial proceedings and trial.  Please see Civil Trials and Appeals in State and Federal Court under our Practice Areas for a more complete discussion.  Please also see the Attorney Profile page for more information about Mr. Sweeney.
